Multi-County Fruit Tree Seminar

January 11 @ 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Multi-County Fruit Tree Seminar

January 11, 2019

Do you have or want a fruit tree, and have questions on how to get it to produce fruit?  Here is your chance to answer those questions and learn what is needed to have a successful and enjoyable experience.  This program will be held on January 11 at the Winedale Historical Complex, Dolph Briscoe Center for American History in Winedale.

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension and the Winedale Historical Complex has collaborated to have an excellent demonstration orchard. This teaching aide has been a great asset to demonstrate how homeowners who are interested in growing their own fruits and small-scale sustainable orchards can be successful in low inputs environments.  Speakers will be Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Horticulture experts in home and commercial orchard production. The agenda, as the weather allows, will also include visual demonstrations of best management practices in Winedale’s demonstration orchard.

This program is a multi-county effort that includes Austin, Colorado, Fayette, and Washington counties.  Refreshments and handouts will be provided.  Registration is from 1:00-1:30 pm and the program will run from 1:30 to approximately 5:00 pm.  A registration fee of $20 will be charged at the door.  2 General CEU’s will be available to pesticide applicators.

As an added bonus during the training, the Bluebonnet Master Gardener Association will have a pre-order sale for fruit trees.  Order forms will be available at this training or on the county Master Gardener website at http://txmg.org/bluebonnet/  There will be a variety of different types of trees available for sale at very reasonable prices.  All of the varieties sold are specially selected to fit the growing environment in South Central Texas.  Pick-up locations will be held in each of the counties; Austin, Colorado, Fayette, and Washington. The date for pick-up is still to be determined at this time.

To register, contact the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office of Fayette County at (979)968-5831.
